PPK could spin out another listed company this year after its lithium sulphur battery subsidiary Li-S Energy was flooded with demand for its shares.

PPK executive chairman Robin Levison told investors that White Graphene was next in the queue and the company was considering an initial public offering in the current financial year.

It came as shareholders were also told that PPK had managed to turn a $2.2 million dividend payout to shareholders into a $29 million benefit.

“As an organisation PPK now finds itself in the enviable position where it is receiving multiple opportunities to become involved in the incubation and commercialisation of existing university research and technologies and is continuing to staff up to meet the growing support and management requirements of these multiple opportunities,” Levison said.

Li-S Energy was expected to list on the ASX in August but has been delayed by procedural issues. However, its IPO was massively oversubscribed and Levison said it would eventually hit the ASX with a valuation of $544 million.

The lithium sulphur batteries are expected to be far superior to the widely used lithium-ion batteries.

Levison said PPK had paid a dividend at the half year of 0.025 cents at the half year to allow its shareholders to use that to buy into the float.

“As a result the total value of the dividend paid to PPK shareholders of $2.22 million in December 2020 is now worth approximately $29 million,” he said.

Levison said White Graphene, which uses the same boron nitrate nanotube technology as Li-S, was showing promise.

White Graphene has been shown to be an optimal way of storing hydrogen. It could also be used to improve paints, increase the strength of fibreglass resins or as a crack resistant faux leather.

“We see full year 2022 as the year when the fruits of our incubation and commercialisation activities which shareholders have positively supported and fined over the past three years bearing fruit with the Li-S Energy IPO outcome being the most obvious and near-term example,” Levison said.
