Blue Energy has signed a non-binding agreement with Origin for the supply of 300 petajoules of gas from its northern Bowen Basin coal seam gas tenure.

It’s the second agreement for Blue. It last year signed one with EnergyAustralia for the delivery of 100 pj into the Wallumbilla hub.

“The latest agreement with Origin represents another foundation gas volume that will contribute to the underpinning of the proposed gas pipeline from the north Bowen Basin into the Wallumbilla hub and for the development of Blue Energy’s north Bowen Basin gas resources,” the company said.

But as an exploration company, Blue Energy has limited capacity to develop the pipeline and had been trying to pressure Arrow Energy to develop its Moranbah field and build the pipeline. It has also been trying to convince the Federal Government for assistance and overcome the predicted gas shortfall in 2023.

The Federal Government’s post-Covid recovery includes the development of gas projects.

Blue Energy managing director John Phillips said the momentum for the development of the North Bowen Basin gas resource for domestic east coast gas consumers continued to build.
