The festival has experienced a few twists and turns over the past two years, winning Queensland Live Event of the Year at the National Live Music Awards in 2019 and then promptly being cancelled in 2020 due to Covid.

It returns in 2021 with a big lineup of Australian talent, including new announcements Ball Park Music, San Cisco and Spiderbait, with a focus on showcasing local musicians alongside big ticket acts.

Alt-rock icons Spiderbait will play the main stage on Friday night alongside indie pop band San Cisco who will drop in before heading out on their national tour.

Brisbane shines on Saturday night with indie rock outfit Ball Park Music set to headline following performances by WAAX and Jaguar Jonze.

The big names are added to an already stacked lineup of Australian talent including Baker Boy, Ben Lee, Thelma Plum, Gyroscope, Katchafire, San Cisco, The Badloves, The Superjesus, Sneaky Sound System, and The Whitlams.

Staying true to their roots, the lineup also features over 30 local bands including Band of Frequencies, Sametime and Sugarbag Blond who will perform Friday.

Bearfoot, Mason Hope and Maya & the Band are scheduled for Saturday while Andrea Kirwin with the Yama-Nui Social Club, JaZZella, and MUFASSA & the Pride hit the stage on Sunday, following Caloundra Music Festival’s commitment to supporting new and local acts.

More than 60 local musicians have been mentored by, performed and recorded with, national and international touring artists as part of their engagement with CMF.

Tourism Minister Stirling Hinchliffe said the pandemic has thrown a spanner in the works for Caloundra Music Festival in the past but now they are back with a framework that will get the show on the road.

“The Caloundra Music Festival is a wonderful opportunity to immerse yourself in the Sunshine Coast’s local culture and community, and hopefully explore some of the superb tourism experiences on offer here,” he said.

“Festivals are also an important opportunity for communities, friends, families and visitors to come together, creating community pride and reconnecting us.”

Sunshine Coast Council Mayor Mark Jamieson said the festival will feature something for everyone, with a range of acts and activities in a world-class beach setting.

“When mixed together, the inspiring music and picturesque location produce a reflection of our Council’s vision for the Sunshine Coast as Australia’s most sustainable region – healthy, smart, and creative,” he said.

“The Caloundra Music Festival will showcase a talented array of local musicians and bands as well as incredible performers from across Australia.

“The festival is also supported by 300+ volunteers, a number of community organisations and local businesses – all of whom are an integral part of creating a great Festival experience.”
