It’s hard to encapsulate the full depth of the 2023 program, so to help you out, we’ve put together a couple of round-ups to help narrow down the magnificent multitude of events. From mind-bending contortion and rom-com movie mixtapes to wild parties and musical journeys, here are all of the unmissable Brisbane Festival events taking over the South Bank Piazza.

The Party – September 1–23
Kicking off with The Party of the century, this Queensland premiere event is sure to be a doozy. From the creative crew behind Blanc De Blanc, Limbo and The Purple Rabbit, this wild event will bring together international circus artists, extravagant costumes, a dance-inducing playlist, and a lavish stage set to create the ultimate party, where inhibitions are lost and rules don’t apply. Trust us, you won’t want to miss out on getting on this invite list.

There’s Something About Music – September 1–10
Lovers of rom-coms rejoice! Local hit-makers from The Little Red Company are bringing the ultimate romantic comedy movie mixtape to the South Bank Piazza for this year’s Brisbane Festival. We’re swooning over theatre sweethearts Marcus Corowa, Irena Lysiuk, Luke Kennedy and Naomi Price, who will be performing hits from top-tier rom-coms such as Notting Hill, My Best Friend’s Wedding, Bridesmaids, When Harry Met Sally, 10 Things I Hate About You, Pretty Woman, Bridget Jones’s Diary and more. This feel-good festival event is dripping in nostalgia, 90s fashion and confetti pops, and is certainly one to add to your Brisbane Festival itinerary.

Cirque Bon Bon – September 20–23
Mind-bending contortion, aerial artistry, sensational dancers and awe-inspiring acrobatics is what you can expect from Brisbane Festival event Cirque Bon Bon. This electrifying event will transform the South Bank Piazza into a melting-pot of excitement, drama and hilarity from floor to ceiling. Cirque Bon Bon is only showing for a short time, so get in quick to avoid missing out!

Siva Mai Club – September 13–16
Brace yourself for a bounty of Pasifika talent at Siva Mai Club. Fusing traditional, cultural, pop-contemporary live music and dance, accompanied by some suave moves and sprinkled with a bit of humour, this big Island social is sure to be a lot of fun. Siva Mai Club will transform the South Bank Piazza into an oceanic village where everyone is invited to gather and party under one hut.

I Left My Heart in Highgate Hill – Sunday September 3
The ultimate love letter to our city, I Left My Heart in Highgate Hill deals with three main themes – love, unrequited love and Brisbane. Showcasing some of Queensland’s most talented female singers such as Lucinda Shaw, Roz Pappalardo, Rachael Dixon, Sue Ray, Megan Cooper and Charlotte Emily, this romantic ode to Brisbane features only original songs written by Sean Sennett, Kate Ceberano and Steve Kilbey from the acclaimed work, The Dangerous Age.

Songs From The Book of Life – Sunday September 17
Embark on a musical journey surrounding the themes of youth, rebellion, falling in love, ageing and money with Songs From The Book of Life. Based on Deborah Conway’s soon-to-be-released memoir, this musical showcase traverses Deborah’s and Willy Zygier’s four-decade-long careers through original music, theatrical storytelling, and gritty details of an iconic woman who transformed the Australian music industry.

Soniclines – Saturday September 23
Let acclaimed vocalist Tyrone Noonan, didgeridoo legend William Barton and virtuoso guitarist Anthony Garcia take you on a music-filled journey as they present music from their debut album. Fusing contemporary rock, pop, indie-folk and electronica, the group weaves a tapestry of intricate guitar lines through cascading vocal melodies and masterful didgeridoo.
